My Beliefs

Scripture says we need to be prepared to give an explanation for our beliefs.

This isn't always easy, because people come up with difficult questions. Heck, I come up with enough difficult questions for myself as it is!

Regardless, we need to be ready. After all, we are called to make disciples, and how can we do that if we have no defense against secular thinking?

I have decided I want to be prepared to give factual reasons for my beliefs. For some, a testimony will be enough to stir their hearts, but others will be focused on things like...science.

My favorite subject!

Not really. It's my second-least favorite, actually (math being the worst).

Though I was not a fan of the subject in school, over the years I have learned how it can be used to actually prove the Bible is true. I am not particularly skilled at remembering every fact or detail, but it's going to be a  personal goal of mine to try memorizing some of the things I have learned.

For now, I wanted to share with you some of the things I do believe (in case you were wondering if our views aligned), and also share some links to resources I have found that explain these beliefs (and others) much more thoroughly (and eloquently) than I can at the moment. I'm starting to sound a bit like Moses. IYKYK.

Before I start adding some resources here, I want to make sure you know...I'm not an expert on any of this. I'm actually going to be sharing some differing opinions I have come across in regard to scientific theories. I have my thoughts on which I feel are most accurate, but at the end of the day, I feel each can be used to answer questions a nonbeliever (or even a believer!) may have.

God didn't provide us with all of the answers for a reason. We don't know the "why" behind every decision, we don't know every single detail of His plan, and we don't know the complete history of what happened in Biblical times. We know the perfect amount. Because He said so.

With that being said, I hope these articles give you a similar feeling of awe, reverence, and wonder as you read them. Science can actually fill in some of the blanks in Biblical history. It's like God left a trail of bread crumbs for us to find- all over the Earth, and the Bible points us there. Pretty amazing, right?

Let's dive in.

My Beliefs:

1. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ. He died on the cross for our sins (John 3:16). In order to enter into heaven, we must accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, repenting from our sins (1 John 1:9, Luke 13:3, Acts 5:31, John 14:6).

2. Though the Trinity consists of three persons, there is one God. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are each separate persons making up one God. (Genisis 1:26, Genesis 3:22, Matthew 28:19, John 1:1, John 1:14, Romans 9:5, 1 John 5:20, John 14:10, John 17:1-6)

3. We should pray to God the Father, in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 6:6 & 6:9, Ephesians 5:20, Ephesians 6:18, Jude 1:20) We should not pray to anyone else. (1 Peter 2:5 , Philippians 4:6-7, 1 Corinthians 1:10-13)

4. Being saved does not mean you have to be perfect or you will go to hell (Romans 3:23 & 3:10, 1 John 1:8). After we are saved, the Holy Spirit dwells within us. We are being sanctified over time, as we experience the ups and downs of this life, trials and tribulation, temptation, repentance, and triumphs. There is a difference between practicing sin and momentary lapses in judgment (which are still sinful). That being said, salvation is not an excuse to sin. Loving Jesus makes your heart desire to be like His, therefore a believer should be led to repentance. We were given a beautiful gift, one that was given freely, and we need to honor that gift by doing what we can to avoid sin. (1 John 1:7, Ephesians 2:8, 2 Timothy 3:16, Romans 5:12, Luke 18:9-12, 1 Corinthians 6:11, Hebrews 10:14 &13:12, Philippian 1:6)

5. The Bible is the inerrant Word of God, made for all humanity, throughout all time. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21, John 17:17, Proverbs 30:5, Titus 1:2, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, Isaiah 40:8, Revelation 22:18-19, John 14:26)

If you made it this far, I appreciate your attention. This was not made to be inflammatory, just to be upfront about what I believe and offer some scriptural as well as scientific evidence as to why. There are differing viewpoints among these articles, but the beauty is in the fact that we can look to the Bible as absolute truth and see that truth reflected in discovery.

To get right to the point...the Word of God can be proven as true and historically accurate. The existence of Jesus is a fact and his resurrection can be proven, over and over.

Since that is the case, what does that mean for us?

That answer is found in John 3:16-17: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

Now, we get to spend the rest of our existence loving the Creator who loves us so wholly. What a blessing.
